White-rot fungi in phenols, dyes and other xenobiotics treatment – a brief review
نویسنده
چکیده
Bioremediation is an attractive technology that utilizes the metabolic potential of microorganisms in order to clean up the environmental pollutants to the less hazardous or non-hazardous forms with less input of chemicals, energy and time. Whiterot fungi are unique organisms that show the capacities of degrading and mineralizing lignin as well as organic, highly toxic and recalcitrant compounds. The key enzymes of their metabolism are extracellular lignolytic enzymes that enable fungi to tolerate a relatively high concentration of toxic substrates. This paper gives a brief review of many aspects concerning the application of white-rot fungi with the purpose of the industrial contaminants removal.

Treatment of colored effluents with lignin-degrading enzymes: an emerging role of marine-derived fungi.
Some of the industries that discharge highly colored effluents are paper and pulp mills, textiles and dye-making industries, alcohol distilleries, and leather industries. Terrestrial white-rot basidiomycetous fungi and their lignin-degrading enzymes laccase, manganese-peroxidase and lignin peroxidases are useful in the treatment of colored industrial effluents and other xenobiotics. Free myceli...
متن کاملThe potential for white-rot fungi in the treatment of pollutants
Lignin-degrading white-rot fungi have the unique ability to degrade/mineralize a broad spectrum of structurally diverse toxic environmental pollutants. Extracellular peroxidases are important in degrading some, but not all, xenobiotic compounds. More research is needed to realize the potential of white-rot fungi in field-scale applications. Recent progress in our knowledge of the biochemistry a...
متن کاملDecolorization of Process Waters in Deinking Mills and Similar Applications: a Review
Process waters in deinking mills often feature a strong coloration, due to dyes and pigments released from the recovered paper. This can usually be remediated by pulp bleaching treatment with appropriate chemicals. However, the red shade (from rhodamine dye) is resistant to conventional bleaching treatments. This largely limits the use of deinked pulp in white paper grades. In this review, the ...

Industrial development worldwide has led to an increase in the amount of wastewater production leading to a considerable decrease in levels and quality of the natural water in the ecosystem. Textile dyes are an important class of pollutants in natural water ecosystem. Textile dyes are molecules designed to impart a permanent colour to textile fabrics. Effluent from textile dyeing units contain ...
متن کاملPhorbol ester degradation in Jatropha seedcake using white rot fungi
White rot fungi are well known for their ability to degrade a wide range of xenobiotics due to their enzymatic systems. Therefore, the present investigation was aimed at screening ten different white rot fungi for degradation of phorbol esters from Jatropha seedcake (JSC). The JSC was fermented with pure cultures of white rot fungi for 20 days under solid state condition. All the white rot fung...
